Training / Personnel

Global Rescue's training division was established with a vision to train non-pilot helicopter aircrew officers for not only search and rescue roles but for utility helicopter operations to an international standard, making Global Rescue the leading and most comprehensive training organisation in this field of endeavour.

The core instructor team has been involved in specialized training for over 12 years, with vast experience in SAR / EMS and utility helicopter operations spanning 20 years. Our team of instructors have a wealth of knowledge and experience, comprising of specialist helicopter pilot’s and aircrewman who provide training in a range of areas including, Helicopter Winch Operators, Rescue Specialist (Rescue Swimmer), SAR Observer and Vertical Rescue, to name a few.

All instructors are Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessing qualified along with CASA CAO 29.11 approved. Our courses provide nationally recognised qualifications under the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF) and are internationally recognized by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) member countries and through a variety of accreditation and regulation bodies world-wide, allowing students to use their qualifications in both Australia and overseas.

Training Case Studies

Australian Federal Police, Canberra
Our instructor team in 2007 provided ab-initio Helicopter Aircrew Officer training specialising in Winch and Rappelling Operations to members of the Australian Federal Police’s International Pre-deployment Instructors. These instructors will go on to prepare federal agents for aviation safety and aircrewing roles within the department for years to come.

ACT Ambulance Service (Australian Capital Territory), Canberra
At the commencement of the first Search & Rescue and Emergency Medical Service (SAR/EMS) Helicopter operation to be established in Canberra and the ACT in Australia, our instructor team were commissioned to provide a comprehensive training syllabus along with ab-initio training to its selected paramedic members for the CHC operated Southcare Rescue Helicopter Service. Our training syllabus went on to become the industry standard today for Australia’s recognised training under the AQTF.

Paramedic qualified graduates from our Helicopter Aircrew Officer Course went on to gain awards for excellence and bravery during the tragic events of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in 1998, only months after Stage 2 training was completed.

Civil Qualifications for Military Aircrew Loadmaster’s
Our organisation has been requested on many occasions to provide recognition of prior learning (RPL) to highly experienced military aircrews as they approach end-of-service. Our role has been to provide civilian qualifications for such personnel and prepare them for work in the civil sector. Elements of skills and experience in these cases can be identical and in some cases vast with Global Rescue’s Instructor’s having the skills to quickly identify the needs of each student and focus a training package that prepares them for all contingencies.

Helo Casting / Hover Exit Training
Global Rescue’s instructors have for over 12 years provided recognised training in Helo Casting (Hover Exit) operations for a variety of professionals including Commercial Divers, Navy Clearance Divers, and Police Divers. Hover exit skills are also needed during emergency events over land such as seen with the insertion of Remote Area Fire Fighting Teams (RAFT) during bush fire emergencies, with Global Rescue providing recognised training qualifications and specialised SCUBA certifications.

It was Global Rescue’s instructor team that provided specialist knowledge and advice to CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority Australia) when the regulatory body established the safety conditions for such operational approvals.

Heli Diver (SCUBA)
Global Rescue is the sole internationally approved organisation to provide certifications for SCUBA divers in the skills of helicopter hover entry into water for the scuba diving industry through PADI, NAUI and SSI. Our instructors have for 11 years provided incident free training and certifications to divers, and through our knowledge and experience in SAR / EMS training, we have created this safety culture and record.

Air/Sea Rescue Awareness
This course was established to provide sea survival and helicopter rescue recovery awareness for SCUBA divers in the event of an emergency at sea. For over 10 years, our instructors have been providing valuable life saving advice and skills to divers to better prepare them for such an emergency. It is through this type of awareness training that diver lives can be saved in emergencies, such as being left behind, a boat sinking, or adrift, that places a diver into a precarious condition.
